Technically, a riflescope is an optical device that shows
the point of aim of a rifle. It also magnifies the
target image, making it easier to aim at distant targets.
But, in truth, a riflescope is where the bond between the
hunter and the hunted is formed. It is a visual medium
that guides all the attention of the hunter and focuses
it on the target.
Lucida Research is dedicated to making original
and useful improvements to rifelescopes and other
aiming devices. We are not concerned with large
objectives, high magnification, multi-turn turrets, or
other superficial enhancements which are of little use to
the hunter in the field. We are not looking for automation
of the aiming process using electronic tracking and laser
devices either.
We believe in direct view optics. Our vision is
to elevate the optical design of direct view optical
devices such as binoculars, riflescopes and spotting
scopes. We believe that our innovations can create the
most accurate, the most dependable and the most useful
telescopic sights that money can buy.
History
Lucida Research LLC was founded by Dr. Omid Jahromi in
2014. Its aim is to develop and commercialize Dr.
Jahromi's inventions in the field of sports optics
(e.g. riflescopes, spotting scopes and binoculars). Lucida
Research is named after the Latin word Lucida, meaning
"Bright", or "Clear".
As an engineering scientist, inventor, and avid hunter,
Dr. Jahromi has been developing expert insight into both
the sporting optics market and optical science technology
for over 20 years. An electrical engineer by profession.
Dr. Jahromi recived his PhD degree in Electrical and
Computer Engineering from the University of
Toronto, Toronto, Canada in 2002. He has made
original contributions to several academic research fields
including digital signal processing, artificial
intelligence, biometrics, and sensor networks. He is the
author of a textbook
on multirate signal processing along with numerous
scientific papers published in prestigious academic
journals. He is a Senior Member of Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has sat on various
technical committees associated with American National
Standards Institutes (ANSI) and International Organization
of Standards (ISO).
After many years of using riflescopes made by leading
manufacturers such as Zeiss, Swarovski and Schmidt and
Bender, Dr Jahromi came to the conclusion that the
performance of riflescopes and binoculars have reached
their peak and are no longer advancing. While better
optical coatings and manufacturing methods have been
developed, the fundamental design of a rifle scope has not
changed in over 4 decades. Disappointed by this stalling
trend, Dr. Jahromi set out to develop a new and improved
optical sight for his hunting rifle in 2007. First he
developed a new method for adjusting elevation and windage
in riflescopes. Next he developed a method for eliminating
parallax error. A few other key ideas followed and this
triggered him to start Lucida Research in order to fully
develop and commercialize his inventions.
Location
Lucida Research is based in Playa Vista,
California, USA.
